  1. PICTcompare

  4. Using this program, you can compare PICT files, and find out if they
  5. are identical, or at least very similar. The program works on all PICT
  6. files, including Quicktime compressed pictures.
  7. PICTcompare also identifies two pictures when
  8.     - one of them is grayscale
  9.     - they don't have the same size / aspect ratio
  10.     - they have a different intensity
  11.     - they have a different pixel-depth
  12.     - and when one of them is blurred
  13. PICTcompare works best on digitized images, like scanned photos.

  16. Using PICTcompare

  19. The simplest operation is to use the 'Search Folder' command on any folder
  20. containing PICT files. Then PICTcompare loads all needed information and
  21. compares all pictures with each other. If the pictures are compressed,
  22. this may take a while. The name of the current picture processed is
  23. displayed at the bottom of the main dialog. When PICTcompare has finished
  24. it's task, it displays a list of similar pictures, sorted by the "compare value",
  25. which means the most similar pictures are at the top of the list. This
  26. compare value is also displayed within the main dialog.

  30. Limitations:
  31.     - Only 1000 pictures may be compared with each other.
  32.     - Only 200 found pictures will be display.

  39.     - Load Master
  40.              Load a master image for the following compare operations.
  41.     - Compare with Folder
  42.     Compares all images within this folder (and all subfolders) with the
  43.     master image set using the 'Load Master' menu command.
  44.     - Search Folder
  45.     Compares all images within this folder with each other. (Doesn't
  46.     use the master image)
  47.     - Preferences
  48.     Limit value :
  49.     This sets the limit for a compare operation. The lower the 
  50.     value, the more the same they have to be. Absolut identical pictures
  51.     have values between 0 and 10, picture that are most likely the same
  52.     have values between 11 and 20. Sometimes there are similar pictures
  53.     with values over 20, therefore a good limit value is between 25 and 30.
  54.                 Add vector resource :
  55.     When checked, the compare information (202 bytes!) of each picture is added
  56.     within the picture as a 'vect' resource (id 128). The next time PICTcompare
  57.     needs to compare this picture, it just loads this resource and does not
  58.     have to load the whole image. If the pictures are compressed, this
  59.     makes it a LOT faster.
  60.     - Remove Vect Resources
  61.     Removes the vect resources from all pictures found within this folder.

  75. I made PICTcompare, because my archive of pictures got much to big!
  76. I couldn't tell which picture I already had, and which not. Therefore I thought,
  77. let the computer do the work, and compare all pictures for me.
  78. I did various of tests and PICTcompare always found the pictures that
  79. were more or less the same.
